In 1957 the Schlesierverein Unna founded the Ostdeutsche Heimatstube.
Following the end of World War II many refugees from former German Eastern Territories initially found temporary accommodation in Unna-Massen. Many then left Unna to find a new homeland in other places, but several also remained.
To keep alive reminiscences of the former homeland, a homeland parlour was set up with many personal objects.
This was initially accommodated in the Hellweg Museum but new rooms had to be found due to conversion and renovation work. The Heimatstube finally found its current location in the early 1980s.
