Historical locations | Turkish Islamic community prayer room

In 1982 a small group of Turkish citizens in Unna founded the „Türkisch Islamische Gemeinde zu Unna e. V.“.
The association was founded with the aim of promoting exchange and communication between local Turkish citizens, instigating cultural and religious activities and upkeeping the traditions of Turkey. Active interaction with other Unna residents was also focused on.
The association considered renting rooms to provide an adequate meeting place for its members, and these should also offer enough space for a prayer room if possible.
It was finally decided to rent a former petrol station in the Hansastraße. However, the rooms quickly became too small because of expanding membership and an alternative had to be found at the beginning of the 1990s.
A building in the Höingstraße was subsequently purchased in summer 1990 which until today accommodates a mosque.
